Kilcoy Castle

Kilcoy Castle stands near Muir of Ord on the Black Isle. The Z-plan tower house was built in the 17th century by Alexander Mackenzie, the third son of Colin Cam Mackenzie of Kintail. The castle had fallen into ruin by the 19th century and was restored around 1891. The castle underwent further restoration in 1968. It is a privately owned residence but the gardens are occasionally open to the public under Scotland's Garden Scheme.
Scotland's Garden Scheme is a charity that facilitates the opening of private gardens to the public to raise money for various causes.
